EMI MUSIC CANADA TO HAVE ECO-FRIENDLY POST-JUNO AWARDS PARTY AND WEEKEND
GOING CARBON NEUTRAL IN PARTNERSHIP WITH NRDC
In an effort to bring greater awareness to the serious environmental issues the country and world is facing, EMI Music Canada are trying to do their part at this years Juno Awards in Saskatoon. Not only will the 2007 EMI Post-Juno Party – in association with Amp’d Mobile Canada - be an eco-friendly, green fete, but all Artist and Staff travel (air and ground) will also be “carbon neutral.” Working in partnership with the Natural Resources Defense Council, the steps to do this are not as complicated or expensive as most may think.
“I’m proud to say that we are renowned for throwing great Juno Parties. This year we saw the chance to make a positive statement to others, by making our Party and weekend travel all ‘carbon neutral,’ as well as donating money raised from the party to MusiCan in support of music education in Saskatoon,” states Deane Cameron, EMI Music Canada President. “We are hoping to set an example that celebrations don’t need to be about waste and excess, but can be an opportunity to give something back.”
“Environmentally everyone can make their own difference; it just takes a bit of time and effort. The hope is that by bringing attention to our eco-friendly activities this year, these types of things will become the norm and something that everyone does,” adds Anastasia Saradoc of EMI Music Canada.
“Endangered habitats and global warming are two of the biggest challenges we face. There are tremendous opportunities today for companies to improve their environmental stewardship and performance. We applaud EMI’s efforts to help point the way towards ecologically intelligent business practices,” comments Allen Hershkowitz, Ph.D. Senior Scientist, Natural Resources Defense Council. “The pulp and paper industry is the third greatest industrial emitter of global heating pollution, and its contribution to that serious problem is projected to double in the next fifteen years. By reducing energy use, increasing its use of post-consumer recycled paper instead of virgin forests, and buying carbon offsets EMI is taking the ecologically intelligent and socially responsible approach to its business that all companies should emulate.”
“Amp’d Mobile Canada is thrilled to be joining EMI Music Canada for this Post Juno party. The fact that this event is making the environment a top priority sets an example for everyone in the industry to follow suit. With our Amp’d Handset Recycling Program, we hope that we can further highlight the need for more eco-friendly initiatives,” says Dave Sypniewski, VP, Marketing and Content for Amp’d Mobile Canada.
EMI Music Canada is thrilled to have many environmentally active and responsible artists on the label, so this is a chance to even better represent them and a cause that they are passionate about. The exciting line-up of EMI nominees, performers and presenters at this year's Juno Awards includes k-os, Nickelback, Stabilo, Hawk Nelson and the St. Lawrence String Quartet.
The EMI Music Canada eco-friendly theme of the weekend has also been applied to this year’s EMI Artist Gift Bags. Items included are organic/eco-friendly and/or from companies environmentally oriented, allowing the artists to enjoy these very cool items even more. EMI Artist Gift Bags will also include the Juno Awards 2007 Compilation Album.
